Rethinking Work-from-home Workspace
In the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, workers across the world transitioned from an office building to an office desk in their home. Years later for many that transition became permanent. I sought to provide a space within the home for those without a conventional office space to keep work organized and contained in one location.

Ideation
Initial ideas took root in a design that intrinsically kept work and work supplies consolidated into a small floor space to prevent overflow.
To make the workspace aesthetically pleasing even when not in use, the idea evolved to have less components and become more sculptural.
To test and validate desk size and ergonomics, a 1:1 scale sketch-model was constructed. User testing was conducted in the classroom with a variety of students of varying stature.
The final model parts are constructed from bent wood laminate with a variety of surface finishes. These parts are intended to nest and ship together in the same package. Pressure fit pins through prefabricated holes fasten the wood parts together while stainless steel rods and fittings provide structural support.
An adjustable shelf underneath the desk adds extra storage or can be used as a footrest. The sub-desk shelf gives instant hidden storage from the front.
